So this year is over what are you going to do? This is the time to start setting goals for the new year. Every year its important to think about what’s important to get done in your life. You can’t get to a shipper with out a map and can’t become a trucker without learning to drive so why are you trying to live with out goals? Life is a trip that will end and before that, you have dreams that you want to a accomplish. Time to make a map, time to think about the most important thing in life as a starting point. What do you want out of life.
Last year I wanted to start a Internet business so I started making my blog, YouTube channel and podcast. Doing this has given me a new way of looking at the world and new goals to set. Growth in life only comes when you start to push forward to learn some thing new, this is why all your goals should have something to learn and then use that knowledge to do something.
If it’s becoming closer with family, that means learning about them. What type of woman or man are you raising, there beliefs and dreams. That woman or man you fell in love with, is she or he happy, what are there dreams, what can you do together to become closer. No one wants to live with strangers, so learn about the people you love and putting them in your goals will create a deeper love, because you are adding respect to the people you love, this applies to friends or family. This can just involve a setting with them, talking over dinner, playing games with them or just helping with a problem there facing big and small.
Think positively about yourself…. ask God who made you to keep on remaking you. ~Norman Vincent Peale}.
Think positively about yourself comes from growth in learning about you. Do you crack under pressure, do you love what you do and are you getting to achieve your dreams? If the answers is no then you can’t think positively about yourself, a dreamer or a talker standing still never growing. If yes than you know how important goals are, you love your family for a reason, not obligation, and people around you are enriched by your knowledge and wisdom. It’s a new year, time to follow your dreams and plan how to get there, because you have been blessed to see today, start to day planing your trip to a better you every day.
My Truck Driver Goals
Goals are like states, there are millions of ways to get there. I like using big long term goals first, which is the direction that all the smaller goals will follow. Big gaols should answer, who you are and what do you want to become before you die. Smaller goals are for the thing that push you in that direction.
When I decide to make a Internet business, the first goal was to learn about blogs. Be focused when learning any thing so you don’t learn forever, create a end point were you just start doing it. I gave myself two months of Internet Business Mastery podcast and then a month of reading many books. Then I just did it.
Paralysis by analysis, you will find this is a enemy of goal setting, so a short time thinking and only on the small next steps, not the long term big goals so you don’t let over whelm stop you. Step by step getting close to your big goals by fulfilling the small one’s and changing them every year as you find out who you are. For me this is how I grow and achieve my dreams.
Spy -Cameras, Why Ken? Well you can use spy-camera to back you up when a customer acts like a ass, shot your dispatcher a e-mail of the video and now they understand the ass-hole you are dealing with. Keeping the camera hidden keeps the ass-hole acting in high gear and don’t forget to send a video to his company. Spy-cameras can help with training as well, you will have lots of proof of who the ass-hole is in the truck or if he is getting high, actuation that you grab her ass or raped her. Video can save your butt in a lot of ways, think about it. Video can be important when you are in a profession like trucking that has a bad image. Last there is the case were something bad happens to you, if there’s a hidden camera in your truck, the police will have proof and more importantly your family will know what happen to you. We all have seen those missing truck driver posters. The road can be a stressful and dangerous place to work, spy-camera can really help.
There are many hidden security cameras you can buy online. The Watch-Cameras are OK, but you look a little weird aiming the face of the watch at some one and you have to remember how many times to hit the buttons or what each one dose. Spy-cameras in glasses are poplar but there a bit big. Spy camera glasses can be passively aimed but remember there is a wire going down your ear that may attract attention to you, but most likely no one will notice. There are the small spy-camera that you can hook up yourself and put any were, there shape like a small box. These are the camera’s that you use in your truck. Think about the shape of your truck then try placing them in a place were you get video of the door’s inside and out, if you can. Then you should set up a video of the sleeper and be aware that if you train you may want to skip the sleeper video, especially if you train women. You may just use a voice recorder in the sleeper in that case. There are many ways to hook them up. Use corners were you can run cords throw carpet or in your bags, were the camera can be in its own pocket. I could go on forever, but that’s pointless you should get the basics and one more thing, talk to a lawyer, so you know the laws on using camera in a truck if you don’t, it would be a shame that a video could get you out of trouble, but it can’t be used in court. Stay G.O.A.T.
Werner is a first time hire company, which means they train no experience drivers. Which is great for rookie’s drivers, but when you get a year in you will have to make an exit in most cases, because of the business model of first hire companies. If dedicated or you have a good dispatcher you can avoided the normal problems of there business model. In most circumstances you will find they give the better loads to trainers.
There business is designed to hire and keep up with the pace of people leaving the company, average turn over in the recession is 60 to 70 percent. Which means 60 to 70 percent quite the company with in less than a year. Most companies have designed there business model around this. So they don’t worry if you quite, or care. There are some good thing about this model you get your benefits quick and if you train there’s usually lots of miles. I find that most drivers who don’t train end up with short miles one week and OK miles the next. Good miles for me as a trainer, 4000 to 7000, and a solo driver average 2000 to 3000, if he is running good, bad miles would be 1500 or less. As you see if you are going to train be prepared to run hard.
Werner expects most of its drivers to quit, so if you become a trainer they treat you ok, as long as you understand freight first. That’s the trade off with any company that is a first time hire, on average. So think about what your future will be before you get out of training. Save money while in training and make sure you try to get dedicated which could help you avoid the bad parts of many first time hires. Back too Werner, they do use computer logs and that dose help with not having lots paper work to do, also if you have a accident they will be patient in most cases. But remember if you have an accident you are now trapped at that company if they don’t fire you. I have seen many rookies who have had rollover accidents (rollover accidents are normally unforgivable in trucking) and not get fired, I think they like the fact that rookie is now trapped at Werner. Recruiters are lying to you if they give any guarantee on anything, Werner policy and rules are based on what’s going on at the company and change at any time. Don’t ever think that you have any grantees, even home time, is not a guarantee when requested off. Freight first is the model, you can increase chances of getting time off working for a company with a terminal were you live.
Werner-Dispatchers, don’t communicate and the departments that are right next to each other don’t even communicate, that means you will have to send message on each shift and at Werner, daytime dispatch is your boss. Who you will have to explain every thing too, if they forget or something happens at night. Yes I said it twice because it’s that annoying, there in the same fucking room! Sorry flashback, Werner trucks that are brand-new, have been breaking down lately and they don’t pay for layover, (you get hotel bill when shop works on truck).
I know the recruiters say they have A.P.U unites on all trucks, they don’t. A.P.U cool and heat the truck with the engine off saving fuel. They do allow you to idle for ten hours when in sleeper, but layover can sometimes be a day or more and not every truck stop you want to set in all day, reason thugs or place is trash. Even though so much at Werner not right, I still will say there the best company to start with. Most of theses problems will be easy after you get use to them but doing it for five or ten years to me would be insane. The only way I stayed for a long time is I trained on a good account and had great dispatchers. Who talked to each other.
Self Defense 2
Tinnitus is a ringing in the ears, usually heared in your right ear and can sound like a high pitch ringing or water woo-sh sound. It can come from loud noise, swelling in your ears or any thing that can cause damage to your ears . These things cause hearing loss and the brain response by ringing. The reason I’m talking about this is I have it and decide to give some basic info on it so others will not get it. We truckers work in a noisy environment, for weeks in a truck. That’s why taking a hearing test by a real doctor is important not just the company, are you alive physical. It may be a good idea to wear ear protection in the truck. Yes I know that sounds weird but hear a ringing in your ear for a month like i have and nothing sounds weird about it. I know that’s not comfortable when driving, nether is wearing a set belt or any thing else safe. Other things you can do like cut your phone down to a low volume, I won’t be-able to talk when I’m driving, that’s good! Believe me simple things like keeping unnecessary noise down is werth your hearing and wearing some type of ear protection. That’s the basic point, your hearing is wreath discomfort and getting it checked out.
Taser are Regulated
State that you should check local laws on tasers, HI, MA, MI, NJ, NY, RI, WI, and the District of Columbia. Other states might have limited restrictions on the use or possession. Simple thing to do call a lawyer in one of the above states and find out about the rule on having a taser. Also you may check some of the court cases that you can google. It will give you a heads up on things that can happen if you have to tase somone. Here’s a few Links.
